It is a district of Punjab Province in Pakistan and is one of the latest most. The capital of the district is Chiniot. It became the 36th district of the Punjab in 2009 Before 2009 it was a tehsil of the Jhang District.
The chiniot district s divided into 3 tehsils names as Chiniot, Bhawana and Laliyan. According to the census held in 1998, the district has the population of 965,124 people. Majority of the people speak Punjabi of different dialects. The district is located on the left bank of Chenab River on the Sargodha road. The district is known for its carved furniture in the world.
The district has a very rich history which leads back to the time of Alexander of Macedonia. They say that he was passed from this land while going back to Greece.
